Rangatahi & Whānau

Central Plateau REAP is committed to supporting rangatahi and their whānau achieve their aspirations. We do this in a variety of ways, including supporting attendance at school, mentoring services and Strengthening Families. We work closely with schools, Oranga Tamariki and other service agencies to ensure that all young people of our district have an opportunity to thrive.

2. RANGATAHI MENTORING

Our team of mentors provide one on one support to rangatahi aged 11 to 16.

The aims are to promote positive outcomes for rangatahi and to support rangatahi to progress towards their aspirations.

The service is personalised to the rangatahi we are working with.  Specific activities, structure, goals and emphasis will differ.

Please note, we are not a counselling service.

3. TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD

We support young people aged 17 to 24 who are transitioning out of Oranga Tamariki care into adulthood.

Our mentors help to ensure that rangatahi leaving care have the same opportunities in life as any other New Zealander and that they have help to plan for a positive future.

We work in partnership with Oranga Tamariki and collaboratively across agencies to advocate for the young people that we support.

Entry into this programme is by way of referral from Oranga Tamariki. For enquiries please contact Brian Griffin by email at brian@reapcentralplateau.nz or phone 07 378 8109 or 022 064 2215.

4. MALE MENTORING

The objective of the Male Mentor Programme is to walk alongside men and provide support, coaching and training in new skills to assist men to set goals and to be the best dad that they can be.

Central Plateau REAP Male Mentor and Coordinator, Brian Griffin, uses numerous activities and processes to work effectively with men who need a helping hand with their well-being. These activities help to create a space where trust and respect are built.

Some key outcomes from the Male Mentor Programme include building whānau relationships (father/son), restoring mana (men believing in and respecting themselves), being more aware of the needs and value of whānau, and learning to plan and set goals.

For enquiries please contact Brian Griffin by email at brian@reapcentralplateau.nz or phone 07 378 8109 or 022 064 2215.

5. STRENGTHENING FAMILIES

Strengthening Families Taupō and Tūrangi provides a way for families to get co-ordinated access to services.

We aim to meet the unique needs of each family, building on their strengths and working to achieve their goals and aspirations, with support from health, social services, education and other services working together.

Strengthening Families offers help and support before a family has serious problems requiring intensive or statutory intervention. By promoting cooperation between community organisations, social services, and government agencies, everyone involved works more collaboratively with each other, with the families involved at the heart of the process and in a decision-making position (ie things happen with the whānau, not to the whānau).

We believe that networking among the services in the community is paramount for positive outcomes for families. We run quarterly community provider networking meetings at Central Plateau REAP to provide updates on the services and programmes available.
